The population's intimate size makes it the place where neighbors know each other by name and often run into each other at one of the region’s parks or trails. As the former headquarters of Oracle, it also attracts many technology professionals and their families, who enjoy a serene life near the attractions of San Francisco, San Jose, and Redwood City proper.

The heart of Redwood City is where residents of Redwood Shores typically head for romantic date nights, evenings out with family and friends, bar hopping, and live entertainment.

And yet, this snug community also has its own share of eateries. These can be found at The Marketplace at Redwood Shores. This neighborhood plaza boasts the grocery store Nob Hill and a smattering of casual restaurants, including Amici’s East Coast Pizzeria. Here, you can dine on pan-roasted broccoli with red pepper flakes, share a brick-oven fired Sicilian pizza with house-made Italian sausage, mozzarella, and slow-roasted garlic, and indulge in a slice of classic Tuxedo cake.

It’s also in this plaza that you can pop into Bagel Street Cafe for an apple turnover and a hot cup of coffee, or into Obama’s favorite, Five Guys, for a delicious burger and fries. And when you’d like to enjoy a game with your friends and family, there’s The Grill House, a lively tavern and sports bar that’s full of locals.

​​​​​​​For a memorable meal, residents of Redwood Shores are a short jaunt away from Mistral Restaurant & Bar, where you can peer out at the luminous water while relishing Mediterranean fare, such as Hokkaido scallops with medley-roasted squash, seared ahi with wasabi mashed potatoes, and paella brimming with mussels, prawns, and Spanish bomba rice. 

Things to Do

Redwood Shores is an oasis for outdoor adventures. The Bayshore Trail is ideal for a quiet stroll, while the lush, 11-acre Marlin Park presents lighted playing fields for an assortment of sports games. It’s also here that you can relish live music during summer concerts.

​​​​​​​Community events are legion in this pocket of the San Francisco Bay Area. Sounds of the Shores lure people to the Redwood Shores Lagoon for excellent live music. Meanwhile, the Redwood Shores Branch Library is a boon for families with small children: the public space often features storytimes (and the library boasts a cafe to boot). Sandpiper Community Center is another top spot for locals near Redwood Shores | Bay Club. This lively retreat lists yoga, pilates, Squash, swimming, and tennis as some of its many fitness activities.
